The workshop aims to deepen participants' understanding of sustainability, highlighting the potential and opportunities the circular economy offers for building a sustainable future, while exploring the role that cultural institutions can play in this process. Participants will also gain valuable insights into what achieving sustainability truly requires within their organizations, equipping them with the tools and knowledge to implement effective strategies. Together, they will develop an actionable plan to make the Night of Fortresses more sustainable, focusing on organization, logistics, and meaningful audience engagement.
In the hands-on part of the program, special attention will be given to the international event Night of Fortresses, which from 2025 will adopt a green framework — Night of Fortresses Goes Green. The topics will include a sustainability framework for cultural institutions (NEMO), sustainable logistics, activities and audience engagement, and contributing to action plans.
The cross-border workshop will gather 30 cultural managers mainly from Croatia and Italy to collaborate in planning the future of this sustainability initiative.
FORTIC Project:
Programme is organized within project FORTIC - From Remains of the War to the Architecture of Peace in the Cross-Border Area of Italy-Croatia
Project FORTIC addresses common challenges across Adriatic cross-border territories, focusing on enhancing sustainable tourism through digital solutions and innovative social models. Key challenges include the lack of digital tools for developing joint sustainable tourism products, seasonal dependency of tourism activities, and the need for green and digital technologies in cultural heritage preservation. The project aims to strengthen the role of cultural heritage, particularly fortifications, in promoting sustainable tourism. This involves recognising and implementing business models that integrate innovative digital solutions and inclusive social models tailored to the needs of vulnerable groups and heritage communities. By achieving these objectives, FORTIC seeks to establish strategic and sustainable tourism management practices across the Adriatic region, emphasising natural heritage conservation and reducing territorial vulnerability. FORTIC will deliver pilot actions to test digital and physical solutions that improve access to cultural heritage for diverse user groups. Projects aims to enhance cooperation and position the Adriatic cross-border area as technologically advanced and sustainable, promoting its attractiveness for tourism while preserving cultural and natural heritage.
