Note: Participation in the programme is free, with no registration fee required. However, registration is mandatory, and the number of participants is limited. Only registered attendees may participate. Registration is open until October 7th, 2024, but may close earlier if the maximum number of participants is reached. The conference is primarily intended for members of the FORTIC project consortium and the EFFORTS organization, whose registrations will be prioritized. If the required number of participants from these organizations is not met, the organizer may allow attendees from other organizations to participate, based on the order of registration. The organizational team will review all applications by October 11th, and all registered participants will be notified via email.

Program Overview

Programme is organized within project FORTIC - From Remains of the War to the Architecture of Peace in the Cross-Border Area of Italy-Croatia 

Priority Axis 4.1. Enhancing the role of culture and sustainable tourism in economic development, social inclusion and social innovation

Project overall objective: Strengthening the role of Adriatic cross-border cultural heritage and recognizing business models of fortifications, in order to promote a sustainable tourism with respect to innovative digital solutions and new inclusive social models which will guarantee development of common territory adjusted to the needs of vulnerable groups and of the "heritage community".

Fortress of Culture Šibenik manages 5 landmark heritage sites across the city area: Barone Fortress, St. Michael's Fortress, St. John’s Fortress, House of Arts Arsen and the Coral Centre of the island of Zlarin. The institution is a cornerstone for urban regeneration in Šibenik and the redeployment of economic activities through cultural tourism development. Most importantly, Fortress of Culture has become a core part of Šibenik’s daily life, with cca 200,000 visitors per year; around 4.000 Friends Club members (mostly local population), over 80 special events – concerts, festivals, movie nights, promotions and workshops organized per season on sites, and a continuous artistic and cinematographic programme - over 35 events per month at House of Arts Arsen.

About EFFORTS

EFFORTS is the European network organisation established in 2017 to share knowledge and practical expertise on military heritage, such as walled towns, forts and defence lines. Today EFFORTS unites 200 European fortified sites and networks in 23 countries and is growing. EFFORTS is member of the Europa Nostra managed European Heritage Alliance 3.3. Today EFFORTS’ main mission is the structuring of European cooperation and keeping military fortified heritage on the European policy agenda. EFFORTS believes that European cooperation is the key to achieving its goals. Any local or regional authority and any person actively engaged in the protection and re-use of military heritage at European, national, regional or local level is welcome to join EFFORTS. The EFFORTS’ aim is to enhance structural European cooperation and coordination, also with the larger society, to share expertise, to promote personal cooperation and to put fortified heritage on the agenda as a permanent link with our common European history. This in order to make a sustainable contribution to Europe’s economic, energy, spatial development and social challenges.

SERVICE INFO FOR PARTICIPANTS

CONGRESS VENUE INFO: St. John's Fortress Campus Building

St. John's Fortress with its 19 000 m2 is the largest fortification in Šibenik. It was built in 1646, but the Educational campus situated on it is a brand new facility; a modern building opened in 2022 in the northern part of the fortress and equipped with interactive classrooms, bedrooms and conference rooms.

Since then, the Fortress has become a place for congresses, residencies and various educational programmes for CCI sector. Campus building has 1700 square meters, 3 equipped conference rooms, large kitchen and dining area, and 14 bedrooms. Check it and you can even book your stay for the EFFORTS Congress in the Campus!
