After a spectacular celebration of their 115th anniversary when they performed Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, this year ‘’Kolo’’ will pay a tribute to one of the greatest Croatian composers in history, Jakov Gotovac, on the occasion of his 120th birth anniversary.
The concert ''My songful song'' will be held on Saturday, June 13, at 09:00 pm. The tickets priced at 80 kuna can be purchased at the Fortress of St. Michael, Museum of the City of Sibenik, Eventim (Dallas Music Shop, kiosks Tisak, Petrol gas stations), www.eventim.hr, www.croatia-tickets.com and in travel agencies Mag Tours, Nik and Kompas.
Jakov Gotovac started his professional career in 1922 in Šibenik, where he spent only one year, but enough to leave a deep mark. For his vocal parts, Gotovac mostly used folk texts. He was an extraordinary interpreter of the verses from folk lyric and epic poetry. Gotovac was an artist who knew not only to delineate the lyric content with tones, but also to evoke the necessary mood and environment through music. Along with the folk elements, Gotovac included the Mediterranean musicality, imbued with sensibility, which is mostly noticeable in his operas. Jakov Gotovac is ‘’Kolo’s’’ most performed author through history.
The concert will be the combination of the most famous works of Jakov Gotovac through all the phases of the composer's work. The repertoire will be consisted of the most popular vocal groups adaptations (“Omili mi”, “Dobra večer, uzorita”), choral songs (‘’Naš grad’’, ‘’Jadranu’’, "My songful song"), instrumental pieces "Simfonijsko kolo", suite from the opera "Morana" and the famous opera choirs - "O zemljo naša" from the operas of Milo Gojsalić and "Završno kolo" from the comic opera "Ero s onoga svijeta" which toured more than 80 European stages and has been performed in nine languages. The concert will reach its finale with the magnificent "Ode to Freedom" from Gundulić’s Dubravka, a hymnic song with which the Republic of Croatia celebrated the entry to the European Union.
Šibenik’s "Kolo" and the Symphonic Wind Orchestra of the Armed Forces, had four joint appearances in the past year in front of more than 3,000 people. Excellently trained and highly motivated, with over 120 performers on stage, along with the songs by Gotovac , they will create a magnificent atmosphere at St. Michael’s Fortress and suitably commemorate the anniversary.
