The unique ambience of the of St. Michael's Fortress proved again this season that it is the ideal setting for the 24 top evening events, which were attended by 19,000 people and it continues to be in September! The September events start with the band Parni Valjak on Saturday, September 5th, and continues with the Side B programmes!
Side B, the artistic program of St. Michael's Fortress is envisioned as the other side of the beautiful summer stage, intended primarily for a more intimate atmosphere where domestic and foreign visitors this summer enjoyed in the performances of Elvis Stanić & Neven Frangeš, Detour, Šibenik Dance Festival and Kaya Farszky, announces two more programms in September: Papandopulo quartet and the Evening of French chansons!
Papandopulo Quartet consists of four Croatian saxophonists: Nikola Fabijanić, Goran Tudor, Goran Jurkovic and Tomislav Žužak, all of them graduates of the Music Academy in Zagreb. They continued their education at Conservatoires in Paris, Amsterdam and Vienna as well as on the masterclasses held by world renowned saxophone players and they will perform underneath the most famous auditorium in Šibenik on Friday, September 11th, at 8 p.m.. The quartet performed on many famous festivals such as Musical Evenings in St. Donat, Rijeka Summer Nights, Music Biennale Zagreb, Music Tribune in Opatija, Split Summer and the Days of new music in Split, Echoraum in Vienna, Days of Croatian Music in Vienna and at concerts in Budapest, Paris, Zagreb.
Special attention has been given to a promotion of new music and to young Croatian and foreign composers by Papandopulo quartet,. The first record of these top academic saxophonists is the best-selling album of classical music for the last few years and they have received five nominations for the Porin Award. The audience at St. Michael's Fortress will have the opportunity to enjoy the tranquility and safety in the performance, intonation precision and rich tonal creation, as well as their skills in various articulations when performing pieces by composers Purcell, Dubois, Geiss, Rossini, Detoni and Ferak Petrić.
On Sunday, September 27th, an evening dedicated to the French chanson will be held on St. Michael's Fortress. Ana Opačak, Kristina Nuić-Prka, Emma Kuzmanić and Tajana Pavičević, with piano accompaniment by maestro Jurica Karuzo will perform some of the most popular French chansons. Maestro Karuzo is the arranger of all the songs that will be performed in an intimate, club atmosphere of the magical space of cultural and historical heritage. The goal is to provide support to young talents at the national and international level through language learning and popularization of various forms of culture. Special guest of the concert at the Fortress will be famous Croatian chansonnier, Ibrica Jusic.
All programs within the Side B remain free for all members of the Friends Club! Friends of the Fortress that present their membership cards can enjoy the programs, as well as all visitors with a purchased daily ticket. All others are welcome with a daily ticket, and tickets can be purchased at the entrance of the fortress.
