With the completion of the renovation of the former cinema hall Odeon in the center of town and its transformation into a new public city space, Šibenik gets a new stage. This venue will be designed to hold music and stage events, cinema screenings, theater performances, exhibitions and conferences, and will be named after one of the greatest artists of recent Croatian history - Arsen Dedić.
The Public Institution Fortress of Culture Šibenik has proposed the name House of Art Arsen, as a hommage to famous artist from Šibenik, who was, and still is, the greatest ambassador of the town and its spirit.
The proposition was accepted by the City of Šibenik and representatives of Šibenik's cultural institutions, as well the Dedić's family. It is common belief that the public will also recognize this naming as permanent reminder to the life and work of one of the greatest artists.
Upon completion of the project, the former cinema hall will become a mixed-art venue, a multifunctional hall intended for cinema and theater performances, music events, stage performances, conferences and smaller congresses.
The programmatic guidelines of this new cultural urban space will be focused primarily on contemporary cultural and artistic practices. The intention is that the space will be a link between cultural scene and the local environment. The goal of the project is that hall should become a local and regional hub over time, through its diverse and quality programmes. The programmes should educate new, young audiences and thus enriches the cultural life of the community.
