The Fortress of Culture Šibenik is taking over the management of the Croatian Coral Center Zlarin, which opens its doors on June 1st! The Coral Center becomes a new location under the management of the Fortress of Culture, which already manages the fortresses of St. Michael, Barone, and St. John, the House of Arts Arsen, and the City Point Information Center.
At the Croatian Coral Center Zlarin, the story of the centuries-old tradition of coral harvesting on this island in the Šibenik archipelago is told in an innovative and interesting way. The center’s primary function is the preservation and interpretation of cultural, historical, traditional, and natural heritage.
The project to establish the Croatian Coral Center Zlarin is worth 3.2 million euros, with the City of Šibenik as the project leader, and partners in implementation are the Public Institution for the Management of Protected Areas and Other Protected Parts of Nature of the Šibenik-Knin County - Priroda, Zlarin Tourist Board, and the Association for Nature and Environmental Protection and the Promotion of Sustainable Development Argonauta. The project is co-financed by the European Union within the framework of the Operational Program "Competitiveness and Cohesion 2014-2020".
The Croatian Coral Center Zlarin represents a unique opportunity to connect the centuries-old tradition of coral harvesting through its comprehensive analysis with today's perspective and current ecological issues that will ensure the involvement of future generations in preservation and contemplation of new ways of coexistence. The basic objective of the project is to contribute to sustainable local development through the establishment of the Croatian Coral Center, and the center itself aims to increase the attractiveness of the destination based on the valorization of natural heritage and strengthening the educational capacities of the local population and visitors regarding the importance of nature conservation.

To mark the opening of the center, a rich and diverse program has been organized on Zlarin during the first two weekends of June. To enable as many citizens as possible to enjoy the summer days on the island, visit the newly opened Coral Center Zlarin, socialize with music, and participate in other activities, free boat transportation from Šibenik has been organized.
