At the international scientific conference held as part of the FORTIC project “Fortified Architecture for the Culture of Peace” which took place in Brijuni National Park from September 15–17, 2025, fifty experts from across Europe participated. Alongside keynote lectures by distinguished speakers from France, Italy, and the United Kingdom, a total of 38 papers were presented across nine panels over two days. These papers will be published in a scientific monograph.
As part of the conference program, experts from Fortress of Culture Šibenik, a project partner in FORTIC, also presented their research.

Karla Papeš from the Department for Heritage Research and Interpretation presented the results of preliminary research titled Fortifying the Eastern Adriatic under French Rule, co-authored with colleague Andrija Nakić.
Head of Department Josip Pavić spoke about the current project of tunnel restoration at St. John’s Fortress through his presentation Emphasizing the Dissonance: The Reopening and Reuse of a World War II Tunnel beneath the St. John’s Fortress in Šibenik, Croatia, co-authored with Gorana Barišić Bačelić, Director of the Institution.

The conference, organized by the Faculty of Economics and Tourism “Dr. Mijo Mirković” of the Juraj Dobrila University of Pula, is part of the European project FORTIC – From remains Of the war to the aRchiTecture of peace in cross-border area of Italy-Croatia, funded through Interreg Italy–Croatia 2021–2027. The project brings together the City of Pula as the lead partner and partners: Fortress of Culture Šibenik, Juraj Dobrila University of Pula, Ca' Foscari University of Venice, and the municipalities of Cervia, Vieste, and Korčula. Associated project partners include the School for Education and Training Pula, the Tourist Board of the City of Korčula, and the Venetian association UNPLI Veneto.
