The host of the new workshop within the FORTITUDE project was the City of Banja Luka, which gathered the project partners in the cultural center "Banski dvor", on September 1st and 2nd.
A two-day workshop called Heritage and Tourism brought together some of the partners on site, some online, but all had the opportunity to participate in interesting presentations, examples of successful practices from different European countries and discuss on tourism destination management, development of historical and cultural sites and targeting the groups relevant to the above.
The workshop was moderated by Rafael Deroo, Secretary General of the European Network of Fortified Cities and Defense Fortifications - EFFORTS. The workshops planned within the project will connect the theme of heritage with its interpretation, tourism and promotion, all with the aim of improving the model of tourism management and marketing of cultural destinations, improving the visitor's experience and raising the tourist attractiveness of historical sites.
All of the above are the goals of the project itself, which will enrich and improve the offer of visitor centers of project partners in the five cities participating in the project; Šibenik, Karlovac, Banja Luka, Herceg Novi and Bar.
The FORTITUDE project (Historic Fortresses Intensifying Cross-Border Tourism Development) started on March 1st, 2020 and it will go on until February 28th, 2022. Public institution Fortress of Culture Šibenik is the project holder, together with the partners: the City of Karlovac, Herceg Novi county, Bar County, and the City of Banja Luka. The total value of the project comprises 1.618.438,72 Euros, 85% of which was co-funded from the Interreg IPA CBC Croatia – Bosnia and Herzegovina – Montenegro 2014-2020 program.
