Choral Society "Kolo" - Carmina Burana

120 performers for 120 years of Kolo - that is the shortest description of the program by which Choral Society “Kolo“ celebrated 120 years of performing.

For the sixth year in a row, they performed at the St. Michael's Fortress stage. Accompanied by the Symphonic Wind Orchestra of Croatian Armed Forces (CAF), they performed the attractive and demanding Carmina Burana, joined by the Mixed choir "Rijeka – Sempre Allegro".

"Kolo" performed the said work by Carl Orff in 2014 and left the citizens of Šibenik and their guests breathless. It was also the first concert after the grand opening of the nowdays prestiguous summer stage. 

The evening programme was under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Croatia, Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, who recently presented the Charter of the Republic of Croatia for the special contribution to promoting culture and to cultural development in the Republic of Croatia and Europe to the "Kolo". This is exactly what the city's guardians of choral singing have been doing  even since their founding in 1899 - spreading the voice of Šibenik around the world.

Today, Kolo is the pride of the city, an institution that the citizens of Šibenik place among the most important symbols of the city, and it is at the top of Croatian choral singing. The testament of their success are numerous awards and golden plaques won at international choir competitions, both in Croatia and abroad.

During 25 years of its activity, the repertoire of the Symphonic Wind Orchestra of CAF has included the Croatian premieres of Croatian and world's musical heritage, the works by contemporary composers and the premieres of the works by Croatian authors. The members of "Kolo" and the Orchestra are happy to return to the summer stage of Šibenik's oldest fortress, as they are the only performers who have performed at the St. Michael's Fortress every single concert season so far.
